Free e-book by Khoi Vinh and Mark Boulton; “Grids are Good” is a simple but insightful look at why (erm) grids are good. I am an avid supporter of grid based design. Have a look (or download it) here.

Intro: Mile High Club
The latest edition of sixty40 kicks it up a notch with some high fly action. In this issue we take a look at the power of tow out bodyboarding and how it is launching bodyboarding into the future with some rib cracking airs.
We check in with GQ journalist and East London bodyboarder, Dylan Muhlenberg, get down to core training with our fitness expert from the Stellenbosch Sports Science Institute, take the road less travelled with Aadam Grant and we crown a new genetic lottery winner.
All this mixed in with the best images we could lay our grubby paws on over the last 3 months, not to mention a centre spread with what is being touted as the wave of 2008.This issue is dedicated to the loving memory of Chris Elliott, one of our favourite riders who has been taken from us prematurely.
Enjoy! ed. [Ian Kruger]
I finished design on issue #7 about 3 weeks ago. After that I sent it to the editors and then it went off to print. It should be hitting stores country wide next week (the subscribers should have them in their grubby paws already).
I will at some point (soon) add all the work I have done for Sixty40 magazine to my portfolio (time is never on my side).
Why “Cruel Summer”?
For those of you that don’t surf, you probably won’t know this; summer in South Africa is really bad as far as getting good waves are concerned… the weather is awesome, the waves are terrible. We need the big cold fronts that form in winter to create swell and the right wind conditions… especially where I live (Plettenberg Bay).
On the cover: underground charger Wesley Potts shot by Spex.
Issue overview:
The Cruel Summer issue brings you all the latest bodyboarding action from SA and around the world all packed into one colourful package with cheesy 80′s music overtones.
We kick it off with coverage of SA’s first carbon neutral music festival, Rocking the Daisies. We then delve into the brain of former south coast resident, Darren Halse, who is currently chasing precious World Tour points while holding down a full time job in dreary ol’ England. We keep up with our regular fitness instalment that should have you ripping whenever the occasional swell comes our way this summer. We also managed to track down Colin Van Dongen for our Create section where we quiz him on his new DVD series, Don’t Stop Dreaming. Then just in time for Christmas we profile the latest and greatest boards from the top guys in the business so you know exactly what Santa needs to drop in your stocking this year.
This is all neatly wrapped into what my art director describes as ‘vomit inducing colour’. So grab a copy and enjoy.
Enjoy! ed. [Ian Kruger]
